Black Eagle Consulting, Inc. performed the geotechnical investigation for this 300-million dollar freeway project through Washoe Valley. Our involvement with the project began in 1998 when site exploration took place. The final geotechnical report for this project was published in 2001, and construction continues today with an anticipated completion date in 2010.
This project, the largest infrastructure project ever built in northern Nevada, had several geotechnical and geological challenges including geothermal deposits, ancient landslides, earthquake faulting, potentially liquefiable soils, and extremely large bridge structure loads requiring the use of large diameter drilled shaft foundations.
The signature structure for this project, the Galena Creek Bridge, will be one of the largest concrete-arch bridges in the United States.
